2011 Communal Ohh! Vankyvank Cumcum! Mix

As the days of our ability to share music dwindle down to only a handful (maybe this is what the Mayans were warning us about?) I feel even more guilty for taking so long to put together this 2011 Communal Mix. How long do we have? Minutes? Weeks? Hours? Let's make every circlejerky moment count, people! <(^) We had a big turnout for the communal mix this year, so I split it into two parts (though they should flow pretty well if you want to do one after the other). Lyrics are serious business. Because of this, I usually don't pay much attention to them. "Argh! Your mouth sounds are getting in the way of the synthesizers and static", I say. Harri v. Grolsch: [Mostly] 2011 So Far Mix!

As you can tell from both the title and the picture, there is a little combativeness going on in this mix. Most of you are aware of the bitter, bitter relationship between Grolsch and I. He's wrong about things (like thinking "documentaries" aren't really "movies") and I hold silent grudges against him for this (that last for years). See? Bitter. But hey, he was like "why don't we make a mix together?" and I saw this for the opportunity to exploit that it is! So the first eight tracks are from me, some of my harsher more Mudd E. Production favorites of this year, and then 9-18 are pure Grolsch picks, full of things like "melody" and "understandable lyrics" that the editorial staff of this blog has historically shunned. 2010 Communal Mix: Gambling With Souls!

This year has been a veritable roller-coaster ride of emotion on the RHMB, not that I would know since I'm rarely given over to sentiment or "feelings." Personal relationships can be chaotic, beast-like things, better left to the more swarthy races. It gets so confusing you never know just whom is doing what to whomever! One thing is for sure though, people do have opinions about music! What better way to get all these thinkings about musics out in the open where they can be debated, bitterly, leading to the shredding of friendships, than on a somewhat democratic list or "mix" of sorts? Sarah Juice's 60s Dylan Mix!

Sarah Juice has this to say about the mix:

This is the dreaded Dylan Mix. Well... Part One of the dreaded Dylan Mix. The catalogue is too big and he changes styles, voices, and even religions throughout the now 50 years he's been recording, so I decided to break it down into the 1960s, 1970s, and then 1989-2010.

Part One: 1960's. Dylan started off the 60's with folk and protest songs. I didn't include any protest songs here cos you'd all hate that stuff, but you know a lot of them already: Blowin in The Wind, Times They Are a Changin, etc. So from folk we go straight into rock. The bulk of the mix is this mid 60's golden era of Dylan's rock phase, but at the tail end we cover his brief country phase. In between are some of his most popular hits and some other stuff you may never have heard, or heard from other artists. I'd say enjoy, but I'm not stupid enough to think you will. So: Good luck!

AKA, my Non-My Bloody Valentine Kevin Shields Proper Mix, or whatever you want to call it. Wahey! Directly from the anonymous horse's mouth, the Macondo Well Incident Mix. Topical! In case you don't know what the Macondo Well Incident is, it's basically the hole in the earth that Obama made by being a secret muslim communist nazi dictator which unleashed Satan's liquified stool unto the Gulf sea and made the entire country unemployed all of a sudden (why does Obama hate Dolphins?). The worst part of this whole thing is how are we supposed to tell what parts of the Gulf were destroyed by viscous nightmare spunk and which were already dead from the chemical death-spout that is the Mississippi River? RHMB's Belle and Sebastian Mix!

B&S: they look pleasant

Ah, Belle and Sebastian. The name-checking indie band that almost everyone can agree on. Okay, maybe some people don't like them. "Too precocious," they say, maybe even calling them "dainty." I for one don't buy it! This split is reminiscent of the Cross-Atlantic Conflict on the RHMB. However, despite the deep divide between American and British RHMBers, riven by years of clear UK aggression, and divided by bad blood over 1812, who had the best punks and tea taxes (now more pertinent than ever), it's nice to have a moment's respite and enjoy some wispy, emotive, indyrockyness together. And / or make babies.

2010 is the year we've all learned something about ourselves. We learned that politics is all fun and games until they are racist (but my tax return sure isn't racist! wahey!)
